Afrodynamics
Farming from the wisdom that carried us here.

What it is
We farm afrodynamically: grounded in the agricultural wisdom and resilience that African and African American people have carried across generations.
When first exposed to the concepts of biodynamics, a great deal made sense to me, and yet, meh. I strongly resonated with a system grounded in a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food, and nutrition.
The concepts resonate, although they appear to miss a uniquely Black flare. The ancient epigenetic wisdom of resilience and unfettered creativity, the dancing, the play, the ancestral conversation.
I felt called to weave that into this practice that I'm crafting and nurturing with my sister, Jazzay, where we started farming together on land stewarded by our family in San Diego since 1980.

In practice
At Wild Loon
Grape pomace becomes mushroom substrate. Spent substrate becomes compost. Compost returns to feed the vines. Nothing here is a waste stream, it's all part of the same circuit.

A longer essay is on the way
This page is a first sketch of afrodynamics, and I'm writing more about it. The work includes collaboration with Jazzay of Azili Wellness. Check back soon, or follow along on Instagram.
